Water High Impact

Filter your water. Skip the bottles.

Bottled water contains an average of ~250,000 plastic particles per liter — 90% of them nanoplastics small enough to cross into cells. A certified filter at home is cheaper per gallon and dramatically lower in plastics. In the guide we name the filter standards that matter (NSF 401, 53, 58) and which pitcher and reverse-osmosis systems actually meet them.

Kitchen High Impact

Stop heating food in plastic.

Heat + plastic = millions of particles released per container, per cycle. Microwaving in plastic, hot coffee in to-go cups, and dishwasher-heating plastic lids are the three biggest offenders. Swap to glass or stainless for anything that gets hot. The guide lists the specific swaps and the ones that aren’t worth the money.

Pantry Medium Impact

Rethink your salt and your tea bags.

Most table salt — sea salt included — contains microplastics from ocean contamination. And most “silky” pyramid tea bags are plastic (PET or nylon) that sheds billions of particles into your cup when steeped in hot water. Two cheap swaps: a clean salt source and loose-leaf or paper-bag tea. We name brands in the guide.

Home Medium Impact

Clean your indoor air.

Synthetic carpet, polyester clothing, and plastic furniture all shed microfibers. Indoor air can carry higher microplastic concentrations than outdoor air. A HEPA air purifier in your bedroom and vacuuming with a HEPA filter hits most of it. The guide covers the sizing math and which purifiers are worth it vs. marketing.

Reduce plastic touching your food.

Plastic cutting boards shed millions of microplastics per year of normal use. Non-stick pans, plastic storage containers, and plastic-lined cans add more.
